Emporia’s first Civic Leadership Institute is a rousing success, according to Director of Special Projects Tayler Wash.
Twenty residents have been involved, meeting weekly with city administrators and department heads since early June to learn more about operations like water and wastewater treatment, the Municipal Airport, streets, utilities and budgets.
Wash says the institute is important because it introduces residents to city operations and the “why” behind them.
Besides crediting department heads for their time, Wash also thanked Emporia city commissioners for recognizing the need for information programs such as this.
The final information session is July 30, with an official graduation ceremony Aug. 6.
