Newman Regional Health’s Board of Trustees won’t have its regular monthly meeting until July 31, but it has a special meeting coming later this week.
Board members will meet at 12:30 pm Thursday to discuss strategic partnerships. The bulk of the meeting will likely take place in executive session with the hospital’s legal counsel and no action is expected.
Strategic partnerships for the hospital have become a lengthy discussion point over the last nine months after Stormont-Vail in Topeka told local hospital administrators about plans to build a new surgical facility in Emporia. Newman Regional Health countered with a package of proposed zoning code text changes to both protect its financial interests and give city leaders more opportunities to look into potential plans from outside medical entities. Stormont-Vail then responded by purchasing land near the intersection of Roads 180 and G just outside the Emporia city limits.
Newman Regional CEO Cathy Pimple and Executive Director of Strategy and Development Steven Bazan will be on KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday to talk more about strategic partnerships.
