The Emporia State football team was in Kansas City on Tuesday for the 2024 MIAA Football Media Day. The Hornets were picked fourth in the preseason coaches poll and sixth in the preseason media poll. Central Missouri was the preseason pick by both the coaches and the media to win the league in 2024. The Mules received eight of 10 first place votes in the coaches poll and 20 of 26 votes in the media poll. Pittsburg State was picked second in both polls and received the rest of the first place votes while Northwest Missouri was picked third. With Harlon Hill finalist quarterback Braden Gleason graduating, head coach Garin Higgins answered several questions about who would be behind center in 2024 and has confidence in his replacement candidates.
Graduate wide receiver Tyler Kahmann talked about being one of the leaders on the team as a sixth-year player.
Graduate defensive lineman Rafe Goucher talked about the team’s expectations after two near-misses for the NCAA Playoffs.
