The 2025 Lyon County budget is set and will likely see approval Thursday morning.
County commissioners had their final review of the budget during a study session Wednesday morning with no changes made according to Lyon County Controller Dan Williams. As it stands, the budget will lower the mill levy by half a mill to 56.972 after the prior budget saw a 4.5 mill increase.
Commissioners will consider approving the budget and exceeding the revenue-neutral rate (RNR) at 10:30 am Thursday as part of their regular action meeting.
There are other main focal points Thursday, including health matters. Commissioners will get a request from county health officials Dr. Ladun Oyenuga, Renee Hively and Keena Privat to allow schools to opt out of sanitary inspections. Commissioners will also get the quarterly report from CareArc administrators after the agency had its monthly board meeting Tuesday.
Several Highway Department items will be considered, including vendor notices for structural steel beam bids and structural steel H-piling bids. County Engineer Chip Woods will also request official authority to “award contract commitment of county finds” for Lyon County’s High-Risk Rural Roads project on Road F between Americus and US Highway 56.
Zoning matters are ahead as commissioners will consider a zoning change request for Agriculture to Light Industrial in the 600 block of Road 170 as requested by Beef Land Development LLC as well as a conditional use permit for motor vehicle storage at 1687 Road W-7 as requested by property owner John Nichols.
The meeting starts at 9 am at the Courthouse Commission Chambers.
