The 2025 Lyon County budget is set and off to publication.
As part of their regular action meeting Thursday morning, county commissioners finalized the budget and approved it for publication. The 2025 budget will bring with it a better than $24 million total and a half mill decrease which is significant after the current year budget brought with it a 4.5 mill increase.
County Controller Dan Williams has stated throughout the budgeting process they would be able to bring the levy down this year for several reasons.
That being said, he told local media they still had some notable challenges to overcome over the last few months.
County Commission Chairman Rollie Martin says regardless if the budget sees an increase or decrease each year, the county’s main focus is ensuring the budget can supply funding for all needed services while also keeping the county debt-free.
This will be the final budget cycle for Martin who announced earlier this year he will be stepping down from the commission once his current term expires. While speaking with KVOE News Thursday morning, Martin stated he believes he will be leaving the county in a stable place financially once his time on the commission ends.
Commissioners are set to formally approve the budget following a public hearing which is scheduled for Thursday, August 29.
