USD 253 Emporia Public Schools just wrapped up its annual Free Meals program last week and based on the numbers it continues to be a popular and well-received resource to district families.
District Director of Community Relations Lyndel Landgren said the program served just over 31,000 breakfasts and lunches between May and July. He tells KVOE News that while that total is down slightly from the prior year, it is still an “amazing number.”
Aside from making sure students have nutritious meal options available, Landgren says the program is also highly beneficial to district staff and parents.
As for changes to the program, Landgren says it is a bit too early to tell if there are any major changes needed as the program just wrapped on Friday. That being said, he tells KVOE News the district is always looking at ways to improve their services.
The conclusion of the summer meal program comes with the district in the “thick” of enrollment. Landgren says the district hopes to have enrollment and enrollment verification completed by Thursday.
For returning students, online enrollment verification can be done through the parent portal through Powerschool at USD 253.org. Additional enrollment information can be found at USD253.org.
