Formal charges are pending in Lyon County after an Overland Park man was arrested on suspicion of mistreating a dependent adult or elder person.
25-year-old Juan Diego Romero Hernandez was booked into the Lyon County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of mistreatment by deception, false pretense, duress or coercion with a value of up to $25,000.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says the investigation started developing shortly before Christmas as a woman said she was called by a man claiming to be a bondsman and needing money to get her relative out of jail. The suspect then received cash from the victim shortly afterward.
Koelsch says the investigation became “labor-intensive” before local authorities issued an arrest warrant in June. Hernandez was arrested by Linn County authorities and brought him to Lyon County.
