SparkWheel continues to secure grants for its local operations.
The EL and Z Irene Hopkins Foundation has granted $5,000 to support what SparkWheel calls its Integrated Student Supports programming for Emporia schools. The SparkWheel program is designed to remove learning and attendance barriers to enhance student well-being and success.
SparkWheel is active in four Emporia schools — Logan Avenue, Walnut, Walnut and Emporia High — with a student support coordinator offering “tailored” support for students individually and resources for all students in those schools.
So far this calendar year, SparkWheel has received a $3,250 grant from the Emporia Community Foundation, a $4,000 grant from the United Way of the Flint Hills and an unspecified grant from Evergy. This funding has benefited the Integrated Student Supports program, staffing and essential needs items.
