Two individuals suffered potentially serious injuries after a passenger car and emergency personnel vehicle collided in Osage County Friday evening.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred just before 7:45 pm at Kansas Highway 31 milepost 43. KHP reports that a 2008 Fire and EMS Ford Expedition, driven by 62-year-old Gary Kitt of Melvern, was traveling westbound on K31 responding to an undisclosed emergency call with its lights and sirens on.
At the same time, a 2021 GMC Sierra 150, driven by 45-year-old Clinton Fagen of Shawnee, was also traveling westbound and reportedly made a u turn in front of thr Expedition. Kitt then reportedly swerved to avoid the Fagen vehicle but ended up colliding with it.
Both vehicles became disabled, the Expedition in the north ditch and the Sierra in the lane of traffic. Both individuals reportedly suffered serious injuries and were transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Both individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
