Court proceedings in a Lyon County aggravated assault case are on hold, at least for now.
On Tuesday, Judge Lee Fowler granted a defense motion for a competency evaluation in the case against Curtis Drake Heitfield, age 32 of Emporia. CrossWinds will handle the evaluation.
Heitfield is accused of assaulting two people with a knife a month ago. He has two counts of aggravated assault.
Heitfield also has other legal issues in Lyon County District Court. He has two different cases underway for interference with law enforcement and criminal trespass after separate alleged incidents in May. He also has a misdemeanor drug possession case underway after an alleged incident last month and was just arrested Monday on suspicion of robbery, interference with law enforcement and disorderly conduct. Formal charges after Monday’s arrest are pending.
