The Kansas Corporation Commission has a settlement hearing next week in the Kansas Gas Service rate case.
The meeting Tuesday was originally called an evidentiary hearing, but the focus changed after all parties involved, including KCC staff, Kansas Gas Service, the Citizens Utility Ratepayer Board and WoodRiver Energy, reached a unanimous settlement agreement.
The KCC can approve, reject or modify the agreement, with a decision due by Oct. 25. If approved, residential customers would see a rate increase of about $3.83 a month or just over $42 a year. Kansas Gas had requested two different rate structures but has withdrawn that request. Had the original plan been approved, the residential rate increase would have been just over $6.70 a month for customers using up to 73,000 cubic feet of gas per month — considered average — and at least $9.48 a month for above-average residential use.
Tuesday’s hearing is at 10:30 am at the KCC office in Topeka. The meeting will be livestreamed on the KCC YouTube channel.
