Now that it’s sinking in that he will serve on the Emporia City Commission for at least the next 16 months, Tyler Curtis says he grateful for the chance to shape local policy and direction.
Curtis joined KVOE’s Morning Show on Friday, two days after the City Commission approved his application out of a field of 10 candidates. Curtis says this was a move he had been considering “for a while.”
Curtis also took inspiration from the late Danny Giefer, who served on the commission for over a decade before passing away just over a month ago.
Curtis graduated from Emporia State University and later became an administrator at ESU, rising to the role of assistant vice president for outreach and engagement, before moving to his current position as chief development officer for the United Methodist Foundation. He has also been heavily involved in different community ventures, including CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness, Emporia Main Street, SOS and other community groups.
Curtis will be sworn in Aug. 21. He will then serve to January 2026 and is eligible to run for election next year.
