Two of Emporia’s animal welfare groups held successful community events Saturday.
Prairie Paws Animal Shelter offered free vaccines and microchips during a two-hour event at its Emporia facility. Executive Director Vanessa Cowie says over 180 animals were served.
Meanwhile, the Humane Society of the Flint Hills handed out free dog and cat food as part of an hourlong event at Dryer Park. Board President Lori DeWinkler says 30 bags of food were handed out and the Humane Society went through its entire amount of dog food. There are still a few bags of adult and kitten cat food left, which may be distributed ahead of the Humane Society’s community meeting next March.
