Based on time, Emporia’s 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project should be nearing the quarter pole. Based on completed work, it’s ahead of that timetable.
In fact, work is about 40 percent finished, according to the city’s social media. Contract crews have used about 23 percent of the allotted working days for the project, which has originally been slated to end next fall.
Mid-to late August will see a slowdown in the workload as the city needs to staff an unlisted project between Monday and Aug. 23. Waterline construction on Prarie between 24th and 12th will be on hold until work is finished on 24th between Prairie and Industrial.
Meanwhile, the Emporia Pavilions shopping center — where a lot of the early waterline work has already happened — will be busy this month as Five Below opens Aug. 23. Old Navy will open its new store and Maurices will move from Flinthills Mall this fall.
