The votes have been tallied and the Flint Hills will be the main feature of the state’s new personalized license plate design.
More than 30,000 state residents submitted a vote with the winning design, an image of the Flint Hills with a setting sun in the background, the word Kansas at the top and the state motto “To The Stars” at the bottom, receiving more than 56 percent of those votes. The Flint Hills design will now replace the “Powering the Future” tag in use since 2020.
The design will only be available to those drivers who get customized letters and numbers on their plates which costs $45.50.
Monday’s announcement of the new personalized plate follows the standard license design update process last fall, where the state developed a weeklong online vote in December after residents voiced displeasure with a design chosen by the state in November. The eventual winner had a statehouse motif in the lower left corner as well as a yellow, white and blue gradient background bottom-to-top.
