Chase County fire crews spent several hours Sunday hard at work on a hay bale fire.
Crews from Cottonwood Falls and Strong City responded shortly before 7:45 pm to Road 200, also known as the Glanville Turnpike, just west of YY Road. It took until shortly before midnight for fire crews to release from the scene, with additional assessments taking place Monday morning.
Early indications, according to Chase County Emergency Dispatch, are the fire involved hay on a trailer, which was destroyed. The semi pulling the hay trailer was unhooked; damage details are unclear. There is no word on how many bales were damaged or destroyed and there is no word on how much nearby grass was burned.
Traffic near the fire was reduced to one lane for several hours.
