A Topeka man already in court proceedings in Emporia for state charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary, among others, is now starting a federal court case in his hometown.
Tyler Seifert has been federally charged with one count of possessing a firearm by a prohibited person. Online court documents say Seifert was previously convicted of “knowingly passing or attempting to pass counterfeit Federal Reserve notes” leading to over a year in prison. The new charges reflect Seifert’s alleged possession of a 9-mm pistol.
If convicted, Seifert could face up to 15 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Hearing dates are not listed.
How this affects prosecution of Seifert’s alleged shooting and standoff incident from the 700 block of State in April remains to be seen. He has a pretrial hearing tentatively set for Aug. 30. Seifert now faces nine counts, including single counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated residential burglary, criminal discharge of a weapon and criminal threat. He is also charged with four counts of aggravated assault.
