“Welcome back” is the theme in school buildings and college campuses in Emporia.
Classes got started this past Monday at Flint Hills Technical College. Emporia State begins classes this upcoming Monday, and Emporia Main Street has its popular Welcome Back Block Party from 5:30-7 pm Monday. Main Street Community Development Coordinator Jessica Buchholz says the event is a good way to connect students to other students, campus organizations, activities and the downtown business community.
In years past, the block party has been held close to 12th and Commercial. The general format remains in place, but the event is moving further south to the 600 and 70 blocks of Commercial.
Tagan Trahoon will broadcast from 5-6:30 pm.
As Emporia State gets ready for its first day of classes Monday, the fall semester has some notable construction underway with early work on the Nursing + Student Wellness Center. The new facility could be ready for student use by the fall 2025 semester. The space previously occupied by the Butcher Education Center is being used to stage equipment for that construction project.
Provost Brent Thomas will join KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Monday with more information about the first day of classes at ESU.
