One of the two tractor-trailer drivers involved in a crash just west of Emporia on Thursday evening was hospitalized afterward.
Emporia Fire/EMS and Lyon County deputies responded to the intersection of US Highway 50 and Road G around 7 pm. Lyon County Deputy Tom Hardin and Fire Capt. Ben Lienemann say one truck rear-ended the other as both vehicles were traveling westbound on US 50. The driver of the trailing truck, 77-year-old Ramon Zook of Florence, was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. The driver of the lead truck, 51-year-old Hua Liu of Atlanta, Georgia, was observed on site and declined an ambulance trip to a hospital.
Lienemann says about 20 gallons of oil spilled as a result of the crash, so Emporia Fire, the Kansas Department of Tranportation and others helped with the cleanup.
Hardin says deputies continue their investigation with unspecified formal charges possible.
