Monday was the first day high school teams could officially begin practicing for the fall season.
Emporia High coach Kaden Glinsmann said everyone was excited to get started.
Glinsmann said there are over 70 athletes out for football after having 81 check-out equipment before the summer. With school already in session, Glinsmann said some new kids are out for football that they didn’t expect they have. Glinsmann added there were some kids they lost they didn’t expect to lose.
Glinsmann said the big emphasis for the remainder of the first week of practice is putting the players on which team they best fit.
Emporia High will host a Gatorade scrimmage at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Spartans open the season on Sept. 6 at Pittsburg.
