Work is moving quickly to bring a new Dollar Tree to east Emporia.
The building frame has been set, and walls and a facade have been erected at 920 East 12th, between Old Rum’s Liquor and Goodcents and also on space previously occupied by the Family Fun Center. Demolition began in early spring, including removal of the go-kart track and batting cages. Word on when the store will be open to the public is pending.
Last summer, JTS Investments secured a minor plat for the 2.6-acre property. Plans at that time were to split the property into three lots, including at least one to be set aside for retail development.
How this impacts Emporia’s existing Dollar Tree on Industrial Road remains to be seen. Calls to the store were referred to the corporate office, which has not responded to calls from KVOE News.
