USD 252 Southern Lyon County is re-emphasizing existing policy on the use of cell phones and other electronic devices in classrooms — which means they are not allowed in those school settings.
The district moved to put the existing policy back in the forefront after its board meeting last week. Superintendent Ryan Muhlig says the main concern is consistency.
The policy bans cell phones in classes unless the use of that technology involves a teacher-approved assignment. Outside of class, whether during lunch, during passing periods, before and after school, cell phone use is allowed.
The first infraction will result in a warning, but additional issues will lead to confiscation, detention and/or suspension.
On an unrelated technology matter, the board got an update on the district’s change from in-person to online enrollment. Muhlig says there are benefits to both approaches, but online is the way to go these days.
Muhlig credited Technology Director Nick Orear and building secretaries for his work in moving the district to Skyward’s Qmlativ system. He says the changeover went as smoothly as one could hope.
