From hamburgers to steaks and everything in between, area residents enjoyed the fruits of the grass cattle industry with the core of activities for Flint Hills Beef Fest at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
Friday’s activities included the annual live stocker show, beef producers seminar, ranch feed and ranch rodeo. Those events led to Saturday’s morning schedule, which included a cornhole tournament and the free hamburger feed, with the meat provided by the Beef Fest Committee and the labor provided by KVOE. General Manager Ron Thomas called it a great weekend.
Activities culminated Saturday night with the annual steak dinner, featuring entertainment from America’s Got Talent season 7 finalist Eric Dittelman, a comedian and mind reader.
The Steve Kile Band performed as part of the annual dance to close out the celebration.
Beef Fest Committee member Danny Broyles says it’s important for residents to see the role played by the grass cattle industry specifically — and agriculture generally — in our daily lives.
