They say a picture is worth a thousand words and Sunday at Red Rocks State Historic Site a presentation on photographs taken over 80 years ago spoke volumes to the history of Emporia.
On Sunday afternoon, Roger Heineken delivered the latest Sundays at the Site presentation titled Life Magazine Covers Emporia. He shared numerous photographs from Life Magazine in Emporia between the late 1930s and 50s. According to Heineken, Life’s coverage of Emporia in those days began, much like many notable local events of the time, with the White Family.
While speaking with KVOE News Sunday, Heineken says if attendees took anything away from Sunday’s presentation, he hopes it was a deeper connection to the history and culture of their community.
Sundays at the Site will continue in two weeks with a presentation on the history of the Emporia Masonic Lodge. The 2024 Sundays at the Site series will conclude on September 22 with Poetry on the Porch.
