The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Kansas Highway Patrol are among the agencies investigating a fatal crash site in Harvey County.
The KBI says a property owner near the junction of Interstate 135 and US Highway 50 reported a pickup truck had crashed on his property around 2:45 pm. The truck was registered to 42-year-old Jonathan Clayton of Peabody. A dead man was found inside the truck, triggering requests for assistance from the KBI and the Highway Patrol’s Critical Highway Accident Response Team.
Early Indications are the truck was driven off one of the highways and crashed into a tree. Positive identification is currently pending and an autopsy will be conducted.
The KBI has confirmed the truck belongs to the Jonathan Clayton who had been serving as Peabody’s interim city clerk before going missing Aug. 3 in a cloud of suspicion regarding management of public funds in both Peabody and Mullinville.
