An expansion project is now underway inside the Emporia Police Department.
The department began a long-awaited expansion of the records department Monday after years of discussions according to Police Chief Ed Owens.
In addition to expanding the records department, the expansion will also see an update to the police department lobby which Owens says has not seen any such work since the 1950s. Owens says while the update to the records department will increase efficiency within the department, the “facelift” to the lobby will comfort visitors and residents in need.
According to Owens the cost of the expansion is roughly $300,000 with work scheduled to be completed by mid-December if all goes according to plan. Owens says aside from a little dust and extra noise, the project should not impact day-to-day operations.
