A nonprofit agency serving several area counties is receiving Kansas Housing funds to bolster its work.
East Central Kansas Action Network, more commonly known as ECKAN, is receiving $7,000 to buy and install two deep freezers for its food pantries in Coffey and Osage counties. The money will also let ECKAN buy initial food stock, notably meat donations, for those deep freezes.
Money comes through the Community Services Block Grant program through the US Department of Health and Human Services. CSBGs offer financial support for projects helping residents with rent, utilities, food delivery and stable housing concerns.
