Chase County deputies have arrested a Wichita man who allegedly pulled out a handgun as part of a traffic stop in Strong City early Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office says the incident began shortly before 1:40 am at the Flint Hills One Stop. A deputy investigating a possible driving under the influence of drugs case, but the driver, identified as 48-year-old Earl Wallace, allegedly got back into the stopped car and pulled out a handgun. The deputy got Wallace to put the gun down. Wallace was taken into custody as other Chase County deputies and Lyon County deputies responded to the scene.
Formal charges are pending. Wallace was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on law enforcement, criminal possession of a firearm, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
