Emporia State University has announced a gift of $650,000 to be used to improve Hornet baseball facilities at the Trusler Sports Complex. The donation was made from the Turnbull Foundation in honor of long-time ESU baseball fan and booster Mike Turnbull. The gift will support a $1.3 million campaign to improve the facilities for Emporia State baseball. Emporia State will name the baseball field Turnbull Field in honor of the gift. Among the upgrades planned are an artificial turf playing surface in the infield and outfield. The team currently plays its games at Glennen Field while the Lady Hornet softball team’s games are at Turnbull Field, also inside the Trusler Sports Complex. Glennen Field was named for Dr. Robert Glennen who served as ESU’s president from 1985-97. Glennen will be honored at the ballpark with a plaque detailing his achievements and contributions to Emporia State.
Update: Added that the gift will be used to turf the playing surface.
