Emporia Fire is investigating the cause of an early morning house fire in south Emporia Wednesday.
Emporia Fire crews, Emporia Police and Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to 18 South West for a structure fire just before 4 am. According to Batallion Chief Eron Steinlage, crews found the home in question was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.
Steinlage says two teams extinguished the exterior flames before crews made entry into the home to fight the interior fire. Steinlage says crews noticed the roof was beginning to collapse and made their way back outside and began fighting the interior flames through the windows of the home.
The roof did partially collapse and the home is considered a total loss. Steinlage tells KVOE News there were no injuries to people or animals and the cause and origination point of the fire are currently under investigation.
The firefighting effort did lead to major traffic adjustments in the area including on West South Avenue north of the incident scene which has since reopened. Traffic remains closed at Copely and West as the investigation continues.
Travelers in the area will need to find alternate routes until further notice. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for updates.
