Arrests and citations were down year-to-year for the Kansas Highway Patrol over the Labor Day Holiday weekend.
According to a news release from KHP Wednesday, troopers arrested 12 individuals for DUI, down slightly from 16 in 2023 and significantly lower than the 34 reported in 2022. Additionally, speeding citations were down from 687 to 598 between 2023 and 2024.
Speed warnings, safety belt citations and safety belt warnings all increased year to year while teen safety belt citations decreased. As for crashes, the KHP reported no DUI-related fatality crashes, the same from 2022 and 2023, however, troopers did work one non-DUI-related crash and reported one non-DUI-related fatality over the weekend.
