The Emporia State University campus will host a celebration of Latino Veterans Saturday evening.
The annual Latino Awards Adelante will be taking place Saturday beginning with a parade down Commercial Street at 3:45 pm. The core of activities will begin at 5 pm all at Emporia State’s Albert Taylor Hall including guest speakers, a dance contest and more. The awards are being put on in partnership between the Emporia Brown Express, The ESU Intercultural Center and ESU Student Veterans Association.
Organizer Gilbert Rodriguez, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show says the main focus for this year’s event will be to highlight the service and sacrifice of Latino Vietnam Veterans from Emporia. Rodriguez says the purpose of the Latino Awards Adelante is to tell the full story of Latinos in Emporia and the Vietnam war is an important piece of that story.
Tickets for the event are available online through the Latino Awards Adelante Facebook page. Tickets are available in advance and cost $15 for individuals 13 and older and $10 for ESU students and veterans in advance.
Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the event still costing $10 for ESU students and veterans but increasing to $20 for individuals 13 and older. Children 12 and under will get in for free.
