The Emporia Municipal Airport will be a busy place to close out this week.
The Kansas Department of Transportation’s Fly Kansas Air Tour is coming to the airport between noon and 4 pm Friday. Assistant Airport Manager Julian Seaman says there will be a few adjustments versus past years.
Seaman also says “it’s always a surprise” when it comes to the planes coming to Emporia. Parking is available in designated parking lot or the grassy area just north of the lot.
Saturday morning features the now-annual Wings and Wheels between 8 am and noon. That event will include an airplane display through the Emporia Flying Club, an appearance from the Air Methods medical helicopter and a car show from Flatland Cruisers. Kids ages 8-17 can register online at yeday.org/emporiaevent for free airplane rides through Young Eagle Airplane. Breakfast will also be available through the Area Experimental Aircraft Association; adult breakfasts are $7 and children ages 3-12 can eat for $3.
