Sentencing in a Lyon County drug distribution case is getting delayed.
Sentencing for Azim Williams was originally set to take place Tuesday but that was replaced by a status hearing Sept. 23. A new sentencing date is pending.
As part of Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Jeff Larson approved defense attorney Chris Ambrose’s request to withdraw from his role. New legal counsel will be appointed later. Larson also approved Williams’ request to travel out of state for nearly a week to attend a relative’s funeral pending approval by a bondsman.
Williams was originally charged with distributing up to 100 units of fentanyl, up to 100 grams of methamphetamine and up to 450 grams of marijuana as part of an alleged incident this past February. As part of a plea agreement in July, Williams pleaded no contest to distributing much smaller amounts of fentanyl and meth.
