The Emporia State volleyball team bounced back from a season-opening loss by winning twice at the Kansas City Classic Friday. As the event shifted to Liberty, Mo., the Lady Hornets took their first match from Sioux Falls 25-21, 25-20, 24-26, 25-15. ESU outhit the Panthers .304 to .222 as Rayishon Jackman led E-State with 24 kills while Weronika Wrzesinska added 13. McKenya Sorrells had four aces in the match as ESU served well with 12 aces as a team.
In the second match of the day, the Lady Hornets held off a late charge from the hosts to beat William Jewell 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-23. ESU had to withstand a huge Cardinal run at the end of the match as Jewell scored 8 of 9 points to save four match points before a Sorrells kill ended it. Jackman had 18 kills for ESU while Wrzensinka added 14 with 21 digs. ESU moves to 2-1 on the year and wraps up the Kansas City Classic in Liberty tomorrow afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. match against Winona State.
