The #17 Emporia State soccer team fell in their season opener 3-0 at Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday afternoon. The Mavericks applied constant pressure throughout the first half outshooting the Lady Hornets 11-3 scoring the first goal of the game 20 minutes into the match. Minnesota State continued the offense just two minutes into the second period before scoring again with just over 20 minutes to play. ESU had two shots on goal in the final ten minutes but could not find the back of the net. Mackenzi Goen registered six saves in goal while Abby Bachman led E-State with three shots. The Lady Hornets return to action Sunday in Minnesota against Southwest Minnesota State. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
