Court proceedings will continue for one of two defendants in an Emporia human trafficking and sexual exploitation case in November.
Jesus Trillo-Hurtado will appear for a final pretrial conference on November 6 at 4 pm with jury trial in the case scheduled to begin on November 12. The pretrial was set during Trillo-Hurtado’s latest appearance Friday afternoon for a motions hearing before Judge Lee Fowler where several motions from defense counsel and prosecution were ruled upon.
Trillo-Hurtado is currently facing two counts of aggravated trafficking and two of commercial exploitation related to alleged illegal activity with a child no more than 17 years old when the alleged crimes took place in 2016.
Co-defendant Maria Trillo meanwhile accepted an Alford guilty plea to one count of commercial exploitation of a child on August 20. An Alford plea means a defendant maintains his or her innocence but recognizes there is enough evidence for a conviction.
Additional counts, one of exploitation and two of aggravated human trafficking, were dropped. Sentencing is set for October 16.
