Emporia Police officers have a lot of investigation sites after a string of auto burglary reports early Friday.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers have already responded to over 20 reports of auto burglaries, with activity taking place from Thursday night into early Friday morning in northwest Emporia. Mattas says the burglarized cars were unlocked or had unlocked doors, with items taken including loose change, cash, purses, wallets and backpacks.
Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables daily. Residents are also asked to remove any firearms, especially if vehicles will be left unattended for extended periods.
Mattas is asking residents to review their surveillance or doorbell camera footage in case any of the illegal activity was caught on tape. Residents with information or video footage can call Capt. Lisa Hayes at 620-343-4225. They can also call Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 620-342-2273 or use the P3Tips mobile app.
