It wasn’t the way the Emporia High football team wanted to start the season Friday night at Pittsburg.
Pittsburg scored the game’s first 28 points and never looked back in a 56-13 victory over the Spartans. Emporia High got on the board late in the second quarter when Micah Gray found Talon Kirk for a 45-yard touchdown. Pittsburg responded with 14 consecutive points in the final 30 seconds of the first half leading 42-7. The second half was contested with a running clock. The Spartans tacked on one more touchdown in the fourth quarter with Rylan Crowell scoring a 59-yard touchdown.
Crowell led Emporia High offensively with 101 yards rushing on 14 carries and a touchdown, while also having two receptions for 12 yards.
Emporia High hosts Wichita West on Friday at 7 p.m. at Welch Stadium. The RV-Doc Pregame Show begins at 6:30 p.m. on KVOE, KVOE.com/listen and via the Audacy App.
