The Emporia State soccer team split their trip to Minnesota by shutting out Southwest Minnesota State 3-0 on Sunday. It is the first win for new Lady Hornet coach Jane Grimley-Gunn thanks to contributions from both new and returning players. Newcomer Megan Jeremias tallied first in the waning moments of the first half on a throw-in near the corner flag. Then returner Abby Bachman keyed two goals early in the second half for ESU. First, a Bachman cross led to a Mustang own-goal just a minute before she scored directly on a corner kick over the goalkeeper’s head. ESU outshot SMSU 14-8 in the match while Mackenzi Goen had five saves for the Lady Hornets. Another long trip awaits ESU Friday as they head to Bismarck, N. D. to face Northern State.
