The fifth annual Halfway to Everywhere was the complete entertainment package this past weekend.
Halfway brought nearly 20 music acts to three different stages in downtown Emporia, with music ranging from one-man progressive rock to a bluegrass rendition of Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing.” It also brought a number of artists to the Art Market for both days. Art Market organizer Hailey Quick, who has been painting the Flint Hills wildlife mural on the north side of the market, put in a lot of work on both the mural and Halfway prep the last few weeks.
This year saw several changes from past years. It was the first time the festival charged for general admission. It was also the first time the festival used three stages instead of four. Despite the changes, Halfway lead organizer Hank Osterhout called it a successful weekend.
Osterhout credited his wife, the Halfway team, city leadership, Visit Emporia, community support, sponsors and information through KVOE as reasons for Halfway’s ongoing success. will have a full review of the weekend’s activities on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Monday.
