Flu shots are in and COVID-19 shots are coming.
That was the update from Lyon County Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday.
When it comes to flu shots, Dr. Oyenuga says it’s best to get them earlier rather than later.
Dr. Oyenuga says licensed flu vaccine providers — Newman Regional Health, CareArc, Haag Pharmacy, CVS, Walmart and Walgreens — all have flu shots available at this time.
COVID shots are expected locally by the end of September. Dr. Oyenuga says this comes as COVID numbers are increasing.
With COVID and flu symptoms virtually identical — cough, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache and muscle aches — Dr. Oyenuga encourages residents to get COVID shots if they start feeling those symptoms. She also says COVID tests are readily available areawide.
Dr. Oyenuga also says the days of 10-day isolation periods are over. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now says residents can go back to normal activities once their symptoms have subsided and they are fever-free for 24 hours without any medication. Residents getting back to their normal schedule should wear a mask for up to five days while in public after they get back to their routine.
