Court proceedings in Colorado against Emporian Phillip Lieurance have been delayed.
Lieurance was set to have a pretrial hearing Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and tampering with a body. Colorado officials say the district attorney in the case requested a delay, while Lieurance’s defense team asked for a motion hearing.
Lieurance was charged in Colorado earlier this summer after the deaths of Amy Ford and Linda Estrada a year ago. The first-degree murder count is for Ford’s death, while the second-degree murder charge is for Estrada’s death.
Charges in Colorado followed court proceedings in Lyon County after Lieurance began serving time for a plea agreement including several aggravated battery counts. Lieurance was accused of ramming his SUV into at least one vehicle on the Kansas Turnpike near Emporia shortly after Ford and Estrada were allegedly murdered.
Lieurance’s rescheduled hearing date is Oct. 22.
