The next phase in Emporia’s 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project is underway.
Pavement saw cutting on Prairie began Tuesday as preparation for waterline work between Hillcrest and Jones Park Drive. One southbound lane will have a rolling closure for about 100 feet at a time during this phase of the project. However, waterline construction won’t begin on Prairie until work on 24th is done, perhaps by the end of the month.
The project will bring new, larger pipe from 24th and Industrial east to Prairie and south to 12th over the next year or so.
Work is advancing after the area near Flint Road and Maplecrest Drive had water service affected by a fire hydrant leak Monday. The incident was reported around 5:30 pm and was fully repaired about three hours later.
Separately, Underground Utility crews have been repairing a water main on West Ridge Drive on Tuesday. Planned work at 15th and Beverley is now taking place Wednesday and Thursday.
