Work will continue on the 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project for around a year, but traffic flow on one of the two major streets is now getting back to normal.
Crews have reopened West 24th completely between Industrial and Prairie. There will also be lane changes near Presbyterian Manor and Apple Lane occasionally over the next one to three weeks. Those lanes will narrow but will remain open for at least part of each day with connection work ongoing.
Pavement saw cutting began earlier this week on Prairie and will eventually work south to 12th. There will be rolling road closures to thru traffic involving about 100 feet of pavement at a time as the process continues. However, City Engineer Jim Ubert says that process is about two to three weeks away.
All told, the city is installing close to 13,000 linear feet of new water mains ranging from six to 24 inches in diameter. Over 30 new service lines and appurtenances are also part of construction, which could still last into fall 2025.
