Coffey County authorities have detained a student after threatening comments “focused on” Burlington Middle School.
Burlington Police says USD 244 Burlington, the Burlington Recreation Center and local law enforcement were made aware of an after-school incident including the threatening comments Thursday. The threat was determined as not credible to the school or any individual students, but the decision was made — following conversations with Coffey County Attorney Wade Bowie — to detain the student and begin the juvenile justice process.
The student has not been named and will not be in school Friday with cooperation of parents. The nature of the threat has not been divulged.
