Economic development will lead the Lyon County Commission’s regular meeting Thursday, but there are other points of business as well.
County commissioners will have their first public discussion of the Vision First report as presented to Emporia city commissioners earlier this month. The study calls for an umbrella agency overseeing operations of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, Emporia Main Street, Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas and Vision Emporia by late 2027 or early 2028, along with the dissolution of Emporia Enterprises and an increased emphasis on performance-based metrics for local economic development agencies.
Separately:
*County commissioners could sign a letter of support for Resound Network’s application for a state Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment or BEAD grant.
*LCAT Director Shane Brunner will present a revised, slightly more expensive quote of over $13,600 from Safety Vision to install security camera equipment on buses. State matching funds of $12,000 have already been awarded for this project.
*Facilities Director Robbie Weiss will present two items, one to add or replace door restrictors on seven elevator doors. MEI would handle the project for almost $31,000. The other item would be for design and administrative fees through BG Consultants for an IT generator at a cost of $15,000.
*Two executive sessions are planned, one each for legal and non-elected personnel matters.
The meeting begins at 9 am in the County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
