Chalk Fest is set to fill part of downtown Emporia with art Saturday — even if it rains heavily.
Activities are set to take place in the 800 block of Commercial between 8 am and 5 pm. Emporia Arts Center Director Dawn Young says light rainfall will keep activities on Commercial Street, but heavy rain will move the event to White Auditorium. There is currently a slight chance of showers and storms all day Saturday.
Chalk Fest is returning to the community calendar for the first time in several years. This year’s event includes three featured artists — Nancy Pontius, Hailey Quick and Heather Sulzen — as well as several food trucks and a kids zone.
People wanting to take part need to register at the Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial, from 10 am to 6 pm Friday, on site Saturday until 9 am or online at emporiaksarts.org. Cost is $25 and includes a 10×6.5-foot space and a set of pastel chalks.
