Evaluations and long-term planning for Emporia’s Water Treatment Plant will begin soon.
During the Emporia City Commission’s recent action meeting Wednesday, commissioners approved the commencement of an evaluation and master plan development for the plant at the request of Public Works Director Dean Grant. Burns and McDonnell will handle the evaluation and master plan development for a cost of $346,000 and will look to cover the next 30 years according to Grant.
He says not only will the plan and evaluation help increase operations and efficiencies at the plant, it will also help to account for regulatory changes that could come down from the Federal and state levels.
Grant says preliminary discussions should begin next month and could take up to 15 months to complete. That said, Grant is hopeful the process could be wrapped up sooner.
Grant also says this will be the city’s first evaluation and planning process since the late 1990s.
