Hope underpinned the annual Walk to Defeat ALS at Jones Park on Saturday.
For those attending, including organizer Kellly Bosak, the ongoing community support is gratifying — especially because the fight against the disease is intensely personal.
ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, essentially destroys nerve and muscle function over time while leaving the brain intact.
Early totals have over $5,000 raised. Funding will benefit research and development, helping to continue momentum built up 10 years ago by the $115 million Ice Bucket Challenge. It will also bolster care services, support groups and immediate needs like respite care or ramp access.
